Agents and Tool Use

Let a model call functions in a loop to look things up and take actions, and understand MCP, the open protocol that standardises how tools plug in.

What an agent is

A model alone can only produce text. A tool is a function your code exposes to the model: look up an order, search the web, run a query, send an email. An agent is a model that repeatedly chooses a tool, sees the result, and decides what to do next until the task is done.

The model never runs anything. It writes a request such as "call get_order_status with order A100". Your program runs the function and returns the result as a new message.
